The Free Acupuncture Clinic of Asheville originated from the vision of offering free acupuncture treatments to those most affected by systemic oppression and lacking consistent access to healthcare.
Under the leadership of the current Director, Sam Soemardi, the concept evolved into a dedicated initiative aimed at creating a community healing space for Black, Indigenous and People of color, separate from the prevailing cultural norms and practices.
The board of FACA is composed of Latine, BIPOC and Queer individuals. It actively partners with local organizations to provide free acupuncture treatments for people of color and immigrants in Buncombe County. FACA has provided over 1000 free acupuncture treatments and collaborated with BIPOC-led groups like Colaborativa La Milpa, Umoja Health, Wellness and Justice Collective, UNETE and Aflorar Herb Collective.
